The term is used in contrast to the natural body of Christ and the Eucharist as one of the seven sacraments, and is a spiritual community of Christ Jesus as its head and of all believers who participate in it by faith and baptism. It is sometimes identified with the Church. People are said to be organically connected to this mystical body, to share in the life of Christ, and to receive its merits in order to be saved.
