...In his later years, he was recorded to have a style of painting in the cursive style, such as broken ink and sumi ink, and in addition to realistic landscape composition, he also achieved a uniquely Japanese style of brush and ink in the traditional Chinese style, which is well traced back to Song and Yuan painting. Around 1501 (Bunki 1), he still continued to travel, and showed astonishing vitality by visiting the area and painting Amanohashidate (Kyoto National Museum), but he died in Yamaguchi or Iwami around 1506 (Eisho 3) (some say 1502 (Bunki 2)). His pupils included Unpo Toetsu, Akizuki Tokan, and Josui Soen, and a copy of a self-portrait that Sesshu painted for Akizuki in 1490 (Entoku 2) remains (Fujita Museum of Art). ...
