A pass on the border between Yamanakako Village, Yamanashi Prefecture and Oyama Town, Shizuoka Prefecture. It is 1,104m above sea level. It has long been a key transportation point connecting the Kofu Basin and the Tokai region, and in the Middle Ages, the Kamakura Highway passed through it, transporting salt and fish from Numazu and timber from Kai. In the early modern period, its importance diminished with the opening of water transportation on the Fuji River, but in the Gunnai region, daily necessities were also transported over the pass, and from the end of the Meiji period to the early Showa period, horse-drawn carriages and trolleys ran between the pass and Yoshida in Fujiyoshida City. Currently, National Route 138 passes through it, and many tourists enter the Fuji Five Lakes area from the Tomei Expressway.
