This took place around 155, and the speech he gave there remains, entitled Apologia (Apology), which is the only surviving example of a court speech from the Roman Empire. Little is known about his subsequent career, and his year of death is also unknown, but he lived in Carthage, wrote literary works, and traveled throughout Africa. He was active as a philosopher and rhetorician, and was respected by the citizens.
