…A pilgrimage church built on the hill of Montmartre in Paris. Its construction was planned as a national event to pray for recovery from the defeat of the Franco-Prussian War and the social unrest that followed the Paris Commune, and the Romanesque-Byzantine style plan (1874) by Paul Abadie (1812-84) was adopted. Its model was the Cathedral of Saint-Front in Périgueux in the south of France, which Abadie himself helped to restore. …
