Primary independence - Ichijidokuritsu

Japanese: 一次独立 - いちじどくりつ

A mathematical term used to describe the interrelationships between several vectors. In general, for n vectors _a1 , _a2 , ..., _an , "there are _{only l1} , _l2 , _{..., ln such that l1a1} _＋ _l2a2 _＋ ......＋ _lnan ＝0, and _l1 ＝ _l2 ＝...... _＝ _ln ＝ ₀ ."
Then, a ₁ , a ₂ , …, _an are said to be linearly independent. For example, vectors are linearly independent if the three points P, Q, and R are not on the same line. Also, a 1 , a 2 , …, an are linearly independent if the four points P, Q, R, and S are not on the same plane. _{A 1} , a ₂ , …, _an are linearly independent if
"None of these can be expressed as a sum of the remaining n-1 vectors"
When _{a 1} , a ₂ , …, a _n are not linearly independent, a ₁ , a ₂ , …, a _n are said to be linearly or linearly dependent.

いくつかのベクトルについて、それらの相互関係を述べるのに用いられる数学用語。一般にn個のベクトルa₁、a₂、……、a_nに対して
　　「l₁a₁＋l₂a₂＋……＋l_na_n＝0となるようなl₁、l₂、……、l_nはl₁＝l₂＝……＝l_n＝0しかない」
というとき、a₁、a₂、……、a_nは一次独立、あるいは線形独立であるという。たとえば、ベクトルとは、3点P、Q、Rが同一直線上になければ一次独立である。また、、、は、4点P、Q、R、Sが同一平面上になければ一次独立である。a₁、a₂、……、a_nが一次独立であるということは、
　　「このなかのどの一つも、残りn－1個のベクトルを用いて、それらの“実数倍の和の形”に表されない」
ということと同義である。a₁、a₂、……、a_nが一次独立でないとき、a₁、a₂、……、a_nは一次従属あるいは線形従属であるといわれる。
