Italian Gothic style - Italian Gothic style

... In Portugal, the Monastery-Church of Our Lady of Batala (1387-), which houses the royal tomb, and the Hieronymite Monastery of Belém (Lisbon) (1499-), built at the starting point of Vasco da Gama's voyage, both show influences of English Gothic, with the latter being a representative example of Manueline architecture, featuring rich decorations that combine shells, tropical woods, and nautical equipment in a late Gothic style.
[Italy]
Italy also adopted various elements of Gothic architecture, and developed its own Italian Gothic style, making extensive use of windows and detailed decorative design, but the tradition of the basilica style was strong, and it maintained a wide spatial composition and especially architecture with solid walls, so it can be said to be an intermediate style that bridged the gap between the Romanesque and Renaissance styles. In northern Italy in the 11th century, rib vaults were adopted, but unlike in England, this did not directly lead to a transition to a new style; the Gothic style began with the Cistercian monastery architecture introduced from France in the early 13th century.
