Born on March 25, 1890. Became a professor at Taipei Imperial University in 1928, and at his alma mater, Kyoto Imperial University, in 1936. After retiring from government, he became the first president of Konan University. In 1936, he succeeded in Japan's first artificial nuclear transmutation experiment. He worked on the construction of the Kyoto University cyclotron. Died on June 25, 1973. He was 83 years old. Born in Hyogo Prefecture. His maiden name was Nagata.
