Apoulon - Apoulon

...It is a base for hiking and sightseeing in the Apuseni Mountains, and a railway and road run parallel to the Mures River, which flows roughly north-south, making it a key north-south transportation hub. The town originated from the Dacian fortress Apouron, about 2,000 years ago, 20 km north of the town, and was the political and economic center of Dacia at the time (Latin name Apulum). In the 16th and 17th centuries, it became the political, economic, and Catholic center of Transylvania.
