Mesa (English spelling)
A city in south-central Arizona, USA. Settled by Mormons in 1878, it became the center of the agricultural and fruit-growing region. It developed significantly after World War II, and in addition to agriculture, it is also home to industry, tourism, and wholesale businesses. It is home to a Mormon church and the University of Arizona Agricultural Experiment Station. Across the river to the north is the Salt River Indian reservation, and to the southeast is Williams Air Force Base. Population: 439,041 (2010).
