Song Zheyuan

A Republic of China soldier. His courtesy name was Ming Xuan. He was from Leling County, Shandong Province. In 1914, he became a subordinate of Feng Yuxiang, and in 1927, he joined the Northern Expedition as the commander-in-chief of the 4th Front Army of the National Revolutionary Army's 2nd Group Army. He was then appointed acting chief of the Shaanxi Provincial Government and commander of the 9th Division. In 1930, after Feng Yuxiang and Yan Xishan were defeated in the anti-Chiang Kai-shek war, he was transferred to Zhang Xueliang's command and held important positions such as commander of the 3rd Division of the Northeast Army, commander of the 29th Army of the Central Army, chairman of Chahar Province, and member of the Beiping Branch of the Military Commission, becoming an important figure in North China politics. In 1933, he fought against the Japanese army's invasion of Jehol Province. At the end of 1935, he became chairman of the Jijiga Political Affairs Committee. As the head of a buffer government between Japan and China, he was in a delicate position, but when the Marco Polo Bridge Incident occurred in July 1937, he sided with the resistance against Japan. He died of an illness in Sichuan Province in 1940.

中華民国の軍人。字(あざな)は明軒(めいけん)。山東省楽陵県の人。1914年、馮玉祥(ふうぎょくしょう)の部下となり、1927年国民革命軍第二集団軍第四方面軍総指揮として北伐に加わった。ついで陝西(せんせい)省政府首席代理、第九師長などに就任。1930年馮玉祥、閻錫山(えんしゃくざん)が反蒋介石(しょうかいせき)戦争に敗北すると張学良の配下に編入され、東北軍第三師長、中央軍第二九軍長、チャハル省主席、軍事委員会北平分会委員などの要職を歴任して、華北政界に重きをなした。1933年日本軍の熱河(ねっか)省侵入に抗戦。1935年末冀察(きさつ)政務委員会の委員長に就任した。日中間の緩衝政権の長として微妙な立場にあったが、1937年7月盧溝橋(ろこうきょう)事件が起こると、日本に抗戦する側にたった。1940年四川(しせん)省で病死した。
