Brownists

…While a student at Cambridge University, he was influenced by Cartwright's Presbyterianism, and later took it even more thoroughly. His view of the church was so-called congregationalism, which held that each church was independent of both secular and ecclesiastical authority, and for this reason the early Congregationalists were called "Brownists." He was persecuted by the Church of England and went into exile in the Netherlands, but died in prison after returning home. …
