The predecessor of the Nishinippon Shimbun, this was a representative Japanese local newspaper published in Fukuoka before World War II. Its predecessor was the Chikushi Shimbun, which was first published in 1877, and after being discontinued and its title was changed, it began publication as the Fukuoka Nichi Nichi Shimbun in 1880. It had the character of an organ of the civil rights movement. At the end of the Meiji period, the company published the Saga Nichi Nichi Shimbun in Saga and the Kumamoto Nichi Nichi Shimbun in Kumamoto. It is well known that editor-in-chief Kikutake Rokuko criticized the military during the May 15 Incident. In 1942, it merged with the Kyushu Nippo to become the Nishinippon Shimbun.
