Italian painter, sculptor, architect, and fortification engineer of the Renaissance period. Born in Siena, he studied under the Sienese painter Vecchietta and acquired the skills of an engineer by studying the technical books of Taccola. From 1476 he served as court architect to Federigo da Montefeltro, Duke of Urbino. After working on many churches, fortresses, bridges, and waterworks in his domain and the surrounding areas, he was highly regarded in various places as a leading figure in the Italian architectural world in the 1980s and 1990s, and made a great contribution to the spread of the Renaissance style through his diverse activities.

ルネサンス時代のイタリアの画家，彫刻家，建築家，築城技師。シエナに生まれ，シエナ派の画家ベッキエッタVecchiettaに師事し，タッコーラTaccolaの技術書を学んで技師としての素養を修め，1476年からウルビノ公フェデリゴ･ダ･モンテフェルトロに宮廷建築家として仕えた。その領内，近隣地で教会堂，城塞，橋梁，水利工事を数多く手がけたのち，80‐90年代のイタリア建築界における大家として各地で厚遇され，多彩な活動によってルネサンス様式波及に大きく貢献した。
