Jia Gongyan (English)

Japanese: 賈公彦 - かこうげん（英語表記）Jiǎ Gōng yàn

A Confucian scholar in the early Tang Dynasty of China. His birth and death years are unknown. He was from Yongnian (Hebei Province). He became a doctor of the Imperial Academy during the Yonghui period (650-655) of the Tang Dynasty's Emperor Taizong, and wrote the 50-volume Commentary on the Lies of Zhou, the 50-volume Commentary on the Rites, the 80-volume Commentary on the Records of Rites, and the 5-volume Commentary on the Book of Filial Piety. It is said that he wrote the Commentary on the Rites after discussing in detail the pros and cons of the commentary with his disciple Li Xuanzhi. The Commentary on the Lies of Zhou is a masterpiece that was created with great effort, and is extremely knowledgeable, greatly showcasing Zheng Xuan's study of rites. Zhu Xi recommends that the Commentary on the Lies of Zhou is the most outstanding of the commentaries on the Five Classics by Jia Gongyan and Kong Yingda.

中国，唐初の儒学者。生没年不明。永年(河北省)の人。唐の太宗の永徽年間(650‐655)に太学博士となり，《周礼疏（しゆらいそ）》50巻，《儀礼疏（ぎらいそ）》50巻，《礼記疏（らいきそ）》80巻，《孝経疏》5巻を著した。《儀礼疏》は弟子の李玄植と〈可否を詳論して〉作ったという。《周礼疏》は心血を傾注した力作であり，きわめて該博，おおいに鄭玄（じようげん）の礼学を顕彰している。この《周礼疏》は賈公彦と孔穎達（くようだつ）の《五経》の疏のうち最も出色である，と朱熹は推称している。
