Turkish novelist. He became interested in Western literature while studying at the seminary in Izmir. After graduating, he served as a translator at the Ottoman Bank and secretary general of the Tobacco Monopoly Corporation. During this time, he published the magazine "New Day" and, as a standard-bearer of the new literary movement, published novels with a naturalistic style, such as "The Blue and the Black" (1897), "A Life of a Work" (1900), and "Forbidden Love" (1900), and played a major role in establishing modern literature in Turkey.
