Masatomo Abe

Japanese: 阿部正倫 - あべ まさとも
Masatomo Abe
1745-1805 A daimyo from the mid to late Edo period.
Born on February 9, 1742. The third son of Abe Masasuke. After his two older brothers died young, he succeeded his father and became the fourth generation lord of the Abe clan in Fukuyama Domain in Bingo (Hiroshima Prefecture) in 1766. He was appointed as the soshaban (official court official) and the magistrate of temples and shrines, and his harsh governance due to rising expenses led to the great uprising of 1784. He was promoted to the senior councilor position in the same year, but soon resigned and devoted himself to rebuilding the domain's government. In 1793, he opened the domain school, Kodokan. He retired in 1812. He died on August 21, 1819, at the age of 61.
