The improved Russell Lupinus was developed by the British George Russell in 1937 and is said to be a hybrid with one parent being the Lupinus moniliforme (also called Lupinus moniliforme), but it has long flower spikes and a wide variety of flower colors. The Minarette, improved in the Netherlands, has a wide variety of flower colors and is a dwarf species that grows to 30-40cm in height, suitable for potted plants and flower beds. Although it is a perennial plant, it is treated as an annual plant sown in the fall, and many are now commercially available.
