Turmeric Deutzia - Turmeric Deutzia

It is a deciduous shrub of the Caprifoliaceae (APG classification: Caprifoliaceae). Its name comes from the yellow-green color of its flowers. It grows 1-2 meters tall. In July-August, it produces one or two flowers at the end of the branches. It has five stamens, and the anthers are closely packed around the style, like in the Asteraceae. The ovary is subalpine, two-lobed, and spindle-shaped. The fruit has persistent calyxes and produces many slender, winged seeds. It grows in the subalpine shrubs of Aomori Prefecture, Iwate Prefecture, and Hokkaido, and is distributed in Sakhalin, the southern Kuril Islands, and eastern Siberia. It is close to the genus Weigela , but is a single species in one genus, distinguished by the way the ovules are attached, the shape of the fruit, and the seeds. Some believe it should be in the genus Weigela. It is also closely related to the North American genus Diervilla .

スイカズラ科（APG分類：スイカズラ科）の落葉低木。名は、花が黄緑色であることによる。高さ1～2メートル。7～8月、枝の先端に1、2個の花をつける。雄しべは5本あり、キク科のように葯(やく)は花柱の周りに集まって密接している。子房は下位、2室で、紡錘形。果実には萼(がく)が宿存し、細長い翼のある種子を多数つける。青森県、岩手県と北海道の亜高山帯の低木林中に生え、樺太(からふと)（サハリン）、南千島、東シベリアに分布する。タニウツギ属Weigelaに近いが、胚珠(はいしゅ)のつき方、果実、種子の形などから区別される、1属1種の植物である。タニウツギ属とする見解もある。北アメリカ産のアメリカタニウツギ属Diervillaとも近縁である。
