Born on January 14, 1902. Trained at the Izumo Papermaking Training School and devoted himself to the family business of making washi paper. In 1931, he met Muneyoshi Yanagi and participated in the folk art movement, creating Izumo folk art paper that made use of the characteristics of ganpishi paper. In 1948, he was made a Living National Treasure. He passed away on December 18, 1984, at the age of 82. He was from Shimane Prefecture.
