Also called barbed wire. Two galvanized iron wires are wrapped with barbs at regular intervals, and then the two wires are twisted together. Four barbs are the standard. It was once widely used for military purposes (barbed wire), but is now used for fences, fence guards, farms, ranches, and boundary lines. Most is exported to the United States, but it has been steadily decreasing since peaking at 23,000 tons in 1963. Colored barbed wire has recently been developed. 鉄条網ともいう。2本の亜鉛メッキ鉄線に一定間隔にとげを巻きつけたのち,2本の針金をより合せたもの。4点とげが標準物。かつて軍需用 (鉄条網) として多く使用されていたが,現在では垣根用,塀の忍び返し用,農場用,牧場用,境界線用として使用されている。大半がアメリカに輸出されているが,1963年2万 3000tをピークに減少の一途をたどっている。最近はカラー有刺鉄線が開発されている。 (→電気牧柵 )
