False vampire bat

Japanese: アラコウモリ - あらこうもり（英語表記）false vampire bat

A general term for aggressive, carnivorous mammals of the Megaderma genus of the Chiroptera family, Megasteridae. They are also called false vampirebats because of their resemblance to the lesser long-eared bat. There are two species in Southeast Asia. The Indian giant alaska bat ( M. lyra ) is found from Afghanistan to Malaysia, Sri Lanka, and southern China. It has a body length of 7.5-9 cm, a forearm length of 6.5-7.5 cm, and weighs around 40-60 g. Its ears are large and rounded at the tips, and the two ears join at the top of the head.

気が荒く，肉食性の翼手目アラコウモリ科アラコウモリ属Megadermaに属する哺乳類の総称。外形がチスイコウモリに似るので，チスイコウモリモドキfalse vampirebatの名がある。東南アジアに2種がいる。インドアラコウモリ(オオアラコウモリ)M.lyraはアフガニスタンからマレーシア，スリランカ，中国南部まで分布する。体長7.5～9cm，前腕長6.5～7.5cm，体重40～60g前後。耳介は大きく先が丸く，左右の耳介は頭頂で合一する。
