...A senior councilor during the late Edo period. The sixth son of Abe Masaaki, lord of the Fukuyama domain. His pen name was Shukudo and his pen name was Yuken. He was called Ise no Kami. In 1836 (Tenpo 7), he succeeded his elder brother Masayasu, who was the lord of the domain, after he retired, and inherited the 100,000 koku fief of the Fukuyama domain. He then served as a soshaban (councillor) and a temple and shrine magistrate, and in 1843 he became a senior councilor, and in 1845 he became the chief senior councilor. In 1853, in response to the American envoy Perry's demand to open the country, he consulted with the various daimyo and shogunate officials, which led to the beginning of a public opinion system, and in 1854 (Ansei 1), he concluded the Treaty of Peace and Amity between the United States and Japan (Kanagawa Treaty).
