Malayan sun bear

Japanese: マレーグマ - まれーぐま(英語表記)Malayan sun bear
Malayan sun bear

It is an animal of the order Carnivora and family Ursidae in the class Mammalia. It inhabits forest areas from Myanmar (Burma) to the Malay Peninsula, Sumatra, and Borneo. With a head and body length of 1.4 meters and a weight of 70 kilograms, it is the smallest of the bears. Compared to other bears, it has long, thin legs. It has a V- or U-shaped white spot on its forechest. It has sharp, curved claws and is the best tree climber of all the bears. It is omnivorous, eating nuts and insects, but like the sloth bear, it prefers termites. It also eats coconut plantations, which it is said to destroy. It breeds all year round, and usually gives birth to two babies. There are records of them living for 20 years.
