Hermann I

...The next prince, Louis the Pious, accompanied Emperor Frederick I on his Italian campaign in 57, assisted the emperor when his relationship with Henry the Lion broke down, and participated in the Third Crusade, dying in Cyprus in 90 on the way back. His younger brother, Hermann I (c. 1155-1217), succeeded him, and was known as a monarch who loved literature. Representatives of medieval German troubadours such as Walter von der Vogelweide and Wolfram (of Eschenbach) visited his court in Eisenach, and his long lyric poem, The Wartburg Song Contest, written in the mid-13th century, is reminiscent of the heyday of medieval Thuringian culture. Landgrave Louis IV of Heilige (1200-27), who lived in the early 13th century, married Saint Elizabeth, daughter of the King of Hungary, but accompanied Emperor Frederick II on the Fifth Crusade and died at Otranto.
