220 - 138 BCE King of Pergamum. Reigned 159-138 BC. Second son of Eumenes I. As a skilled soldier and politician, he assisted his older brother Eumenes II and promoted his pro-Roman policies. He himself was a loyal ally of Rome throughout his life. He ascended to the throne upon his brother's death, defeated the neighboring state of Bithynia with the help of Rome, and also intervened in the succession of kings in neighboring countries, striving to strengthen his own country. He was also known as a patron of Greek art, and it is said that the Attaleia Festival was held in Delphi to commemorate his assistance.
