King of Pergamum. Reigned 159-138 BC. Second son of Eumenes I. As a skilled soldier and politician, he assisted his older brother Eumenes II and promoted his pro-Roman policies. He himself was a loyal ally of Rome throughout his life. He ascended to the throne upon his brother's death, defeated the neighboring state of Bithynia with the help of Rome, and also intervened in the succession of kings in neighboring countries, striving to strengthen his own country. He was also known as a patron of Greek art, and it is said that the Attaleia Festival was held in Delphi to commemorate his assistance. [Tamura Takashi]

ペルガモン王。在位，前159‐前138年。1世の次男。優秀な軍人，政治家として兄エウメネス2世を助け，その親ローマ政策を推進した。自身も終始ローマの忠実な同盟者であった。兄の死とともに王位につき，隣国ビテュニアをローマの援助のもとに破り，近隣諸国の王位継承にも介入し，自国の強化に努めた。ギリシア芸術の保護者としても知られ，デルフォイでは彼の援助を記念してアッタレイアの祭典が行われたと伝えられる。【田村孝】
