(1) Dry point (called pointe sèche in French), which uses an iron needle to draw directly on the plate instead of using a burin, offers the same improvisational freedom as etching, but corrections are difficult and require skill. Ink that accumulates on the metal burrs that form at the edges of the engraved lines creates a unique bleeding effect in the engraved lines.
