[Polyvinylidene chloride]
An old synthetic fiber that was industrialized in 1940 by the American Dow Chemical Company as Saran (trademark). Kurehalon (trademark) also belongs to this category. It is made by melt spinning a copolymer consisting mainly of vinylidene chloride units, which is a copolymer of 85% by weight of vinylidene chloride, 13% by weight of vinyl chloride, and 2% by weight of acrylonitrile.
