Heir - Afterword

Heir - Afterword
It is also called "Atoshiki" or "Atome". In the Kamakura period, the property to be inherited was called Atoshiki. Since inheritance was divided at that time, it referred to the family headship and property inherited by the eldest son, and the property inherited by an illegitimate child. However, in the Muromachi period, when the system of sole inheritance by the eldest son (→sole inheritance by the legitimate son) was introduced, it came to refer to the family headship and property concentrated in the eldest son. In the Edo period, it referred to the family name and family stipend to be inherited, and depending on the reason for the start of the inheritance, it was called the family headship inheritance in the case of retirement, and the Atome inheritance in the case of the death of the previous head, which was distinguished.
