A classification term for Noh. A form of Noh in which the protagonist (shite), a surreal being (a god, spirit, or spirit, etc.) appears before travelers (such as monks in the waki role) visiting famous places and historical sites, and tells them local legends and his or her life story. This is a dramatization method perfected by Zeami, as opposed to "gendaimono," in which all the characters are real people.
