A town in Kasuya County, central Fukuoka Prefecture. A former mining town in the southern part of the Kasuya coalfield, it once had many large and small coal mines, including the Katsuta coal mine, but they are now all closed. The Kashii Line runs through the town. Umi Hachiman Shrine is located here. It straddles Dazaifu City, and is home to the ruins of Ooya Castle (a special historic site). Area: 30.21 km2 .
