Figured glass - Kataitagarasu (English spelling)

This is glass with an uneven surface, and is made into a sheet by passing the glass coming out of the melting furnace between two rolls. A pattern is engraved on the surface of the rolls, which is transferred to the glass as it passes through the rolls. The uneven surface allows light to pass through while blocking the view. Taking advantage of this feature, it is used in interior partitions, windows, entrances, reception rooms, bathrooms, washrooms, and other places where decorativeness and blocking the view are required. Furthermore, patterned glass, which has excellent light transmittance and reduced surface reflection, is used as cover glass for solar cells and water heaters.

表面に凹凸をつけたガラスで、溶解窯から出てきたガラスを2本のロールの間に通すことで製板される。ロール表面には型模様が彫刻されており、ロール通過時にガラス面に転写される。表面の凹凸によって光を通しながら視線を遮ることができる。この特長を利用して室内の間仕切り、窓、玄関、応接間、浴室、洗面所など、装飾性と視線の遮断が必要な場所に用いられる。また、光透過性に優れ、表面反射を低減した型板ガラスは、太陽電池のカバーガラスや温水器のカバーガラスとして用いられている。
