Alpine languages - Kozanzokushogo

Japanese: 高山族諸語 - こうざんぞくしょご

A general term for the languages of the indigenous people living in Taiwan, also known as Takasago languages, and all of them belong to the Austronesian language family (hereafter abbreviated as "Austronesian languages"). However, scholars differ on the position of the Austronesian languages within the Austronesian language family. Some scholars divide the Austronesian languages into two branches: the Western branch (Indonesian) and the Oceanian branch, with the Austronesian languages belonging to the former branch, others divide the Austronesian languages into two branches: the Taiwanese branch (Alpine languages) and the rest, others divide the Austronesian languages into three branches: the Taiwanese branch, the Western branch, and the Oceanian branch, and still others divide the Austronesian languages into four branches: the Atayal branch, the Tsou branch, the Paiwan branch (all three of which are Alpine languages) and the Malayo-Polynesian branch.

台湾に居住する原住民族の言語の総称で，高砂（たかさご）族諸語ともいい，すべてアウストロネシア語族(以下〈南島語族〉と略称する)に属する。しかし高山族諸語が南島語族の中でどのような位置を占めるかについては学者によって意見が異なり，南島語族を西部語派(インドネシア語派)とオセアニア語派に二分し，高山族諸語は前者に属するとする説，南島語族を台湾語派(高山族諸語)とその他に二大分する説，南島語族を台湾語派，西部語派，オセアニア語派に三大分する説，さらには南島語族をアタヤル語派，ツォウ語派，パイワン語派(以上の3語派はすべて高山族諸語)，マレー･ポリネシア語派に四大分する説などがある。
