Ariga Kizaemon

Japanese: 有賀喜左衛門 - あるがきざえもん

Born: January 20, 1897 in Nagano
[Died] December 20, 1979. Matsumoto, rural sociologist. In works such as "The Japanese Family System and Tenant System" (1943), he used the theory of ie and clan groups to explain the basic structure of Japanese rural areas before World War II. Starting from the characteristics of the hierarchical relationship of master and servant as a labor organization in Japanese ie, he attempted to clarify the ethnic character of the social structure of Japanese rural areas through historical analysis by examining clan ties as a family alliance. His main work was "Collected Works of Ariga Kizaemon" (66-71).
