Trümmerfilme (English spelling)

Japanese: Trümmerfilme(英語表記)Trummerfilme
Trümmerfilme (English spelling)

...Following Italy's Neorealism just after World War II and France's Nouvelle Vague in the late 1950s, this name was given to a new film movement that finally emerged in West Germany from the late 1960s to the 1970s. After the war, German film was on a steady decline and disappearance, as symbolized by the dissolution of the 25-year-old UFA company, and it lost its strength when Germany was divided into East and West. In West Germany, however, outstanding talents emerged from the Trümmerfilme, which denounced the crimes of the Nazis and spoke about the current state of devastation and hunger, such as Helmut Keutner (The Last Bridge, 1954) and then Bernhard Bicki (The Bridge, 1959). However, both were absorbed by Hollywood, and all that was left were the mother-films and melodramas of the Arbeiterfilme, which had been made in Berlin, and the Heimatfilme, which had been made in Munich. A group of young filmmakers called the "Munich Group" (later the "Oberhausen Group") who gathered at the Oberhausen Short Film Festival in 1962 (who had only made documentaries and short films up until that point) proclaimed the creation of a "new German film" (Junger Deutscher Film) under the slogan "Daddy's Film is Dead."
