...Mangabey is the name of a region in Madagascar, from which Buffon mistakenly assumed this monkey came. There are various types of mangabeys, including the sooty mangabey C. atys , the agile mangabey C. galeritus , the white-necked mangabey C. torquatus , the white-capped mangabey C. albigena (illustration), and the pointy mangabey C. aterrimus , but their classification is still in flux. They are found in West Africa, Central Africa, and parts of East Africa.
