Poet. Born in Okayama Prefecture. Real name Toshiharu. Adopted by his uncle, Viscount Kinoshita Toshiyasu, a former feudal lord, he grew up in Tokyo. Graduated from the Japanese Literature Department of Tokyo Imperial University. At the age of 12, he became a disciple of Sasaki Nobutsuna, and was a member of Kokoro no Hana throughout his life, and was praised on a par with fellow student Kawada Jun. In 1910 (Meiji 43), he founded Shirakaba together with Shiga Naoya, Mushanokoji Saneatsu, and others, publishing mainly tanka. He also participated in Nikko, which was published by Kitahara Hakushu and others. He gradually established his own style of poetry, making use of colloquial ideas, slang, and four-four rhythm to create a fresh and distinctive modern poetic spirit. His poetry collections include "Silver" (1914), "Rocky" (1919), "A Road" (1924), and "The Beginning of Spring," as well as the poetry and prose collection "Collection of Li Qing" (1925).
