A comprehensive history of Japan based on the Enlightenment-based theory of civilization history written by Taguchi Ukichi (Teiken). It was published in six volumes in Japanese binding between September 1877 (Meiji 10) and October 1882. It was later published as a single volume in Western binding and has been included in complete collections and paperbacks. Influenced by the theories on European civilization history written by Buckle and Guizot and the civilization theory of Fukuzawa Yukichi, it follows the theories of Arai Hakuseki's "Tokushi Yoron" and other works, and summarizes the development of Japanese history from the Age of the Gods to the Tokugawa reign in 13 chapters. It is the first history book to comprehensively examine the fields of politics, economics, literature, religion, etc., with "money and wealth" (economy) as the driving force of history, and is noteworthy for Taguchi's subsequent interest in history.
