Born on February 12, 1871. He turned from a bank clerk to an actor, making his debut at the Tsutaza Theater in Yokohama in 1893. In 1900, he formed the second Seibi-dan with Takada Minoru and others at the Asahiza Theater in Osaka. Together with Kitamura Rokuro and others, he pioneered the heyday of the Kansai Shinpa school. His best roles included Hazama Kan'ichi in "Konjiki Yasha." He passed away on January 19, 1916. He was 46 years old. He was from Owari (Aichi Prefecture). His real name was Nagata Hideo.
