Japanese: 心臓薬 - しんぞうやく

Drugs that act on the heart are generally called cardiac drugs, but this term is not used in pharmacology. They are broadly divided into cardiac inotropes, antiarrhythmic drugs, and antianginal drugs.
[Cardiac Inotropes]
It is used to increase the contractile force of the myocardium when the heart's function is impaired due to various causes. Typical examples are herbal medicines such as the leaves of the plant Digitalis purpurea (Scrophulariaceae), the seeds of the plant Strophanthus (Apocynaceae), and the plant Kaisou (Sea leek) (Lily family), as well as the cardiac glycosides that are the active ingredients of these herbs.

心臓に作用する薬物を総称して一般に心臓薬というが，この名称は薬理学では用いられない。その中身は大別して強心薬，抗不整脈薬，狭心症治療薬である。
［強心薬］
　種々の原因で心臓の機能が低下している場合に，心筋の収縮力を高める目的で用いる。代表的なものは，ゴマノハグサ科の植物ジギタリスの葉，キョウチクトウ科の植物ストロファンツスの種子，ユリ科の植物カイソウ(海葱)などの生薬，およびこれらの有効成分である強心配糖体である。
