Drugs that act on the heart are generally called cardiac drugs, but this term is not used in pharmacology. They are broadly divided into cardiac inotropes, antiarrhythmic drugs, and antianginal drugs. [Cardiac Inotropes] It is used to increase the contractile force of the myocardium when the heart's function is impaired due to various causes. Typical examples are herbal medicines such as the leaves of the plant Digitalis purpurea (Scrophulariaceae), the seeds of the plant Strophanthus (Apocynaceae), and the plant Kaisou (Sea leek) (Lily family), as well as the cardiac glycosides that are the active ingredients of these herbs.
