Akizuki clan

Japanese: 秋月氏 - あきづきうじ

His original surname was Okura. He is said to have descended from Emperor Xiaolei of the Later Han Dynasty in China. He was awarded Harada in Mikasa County, Chikuzen Province, for his contributions in the Fujiwara no Sumitomo Rebellion, and took the name Harada. However, from the Kamakura period he called himself Akizuki. In 1587, during Toyotomi Hideyoshi's campaign against the Shimazu clan, Akizuki Tanezane sided with the Shimazu clan and had his territory confiscated. His son Tanenaga was granted the fief of Treasure (later Takanabe) with 30,000 koku, and since then his descendants have inherited the Takanabe Domain (Akizuki Domain), and in the Meiji period he was granted the title of viscount.

本姓大蔵氏。中国後漢の孝霊帝より出たという。藤原純友の乱に功があって，筑前国御笠郡原田を与えられ，原田氏を名のったが，鎌倉時代から秋月氏と称した。天正 15 (1587) 年，豊臣秀吉の島津征伐の際，秋月種実が島津氏にくみしたため，領地を没収された。その子種長が財部 (のち高鍋) 3万石に封じられ，以来高鍋藩 (秋月藩) としてその子孫が世襲，明治にいたって子爵を授けられた。
