...A Christian military commander in the early Edo period. Dates of birth and death unknown. His name was Morishige. He was also known as Zento and Zensho. His baptismal name was Joan. He married Ukita Hideie's sister and held the largest territory among his retainers. After the Ukita clan, which belonged to the Western Army, was destroyed in the Battle of Sekigahara in 1600 (Keicho 5), he was welcomed into the Kuroda family and lived in Akizuki, Chikuzen. In 1615, he accepted an invitation from Toyotomi Hideyori and led a Christian unit in the Siege of Osaka. After the fall of Osaka Castle, it is said that he was killed in battle, or that he died of illness after fleeing and hiding.
