...Elaborate bone and horn implements have been collected here since ancient times, and academic surveys were conducted twice, in 1940 and 1966. It is a typical site for unearthing Esan-style pottery, which is similar to the Yayoi pottery of the northern Tohoku region, such as Inakadate-style and Futababashi-style pottery, and a burial mound and a thin shell layer have been discovered. The burial pit is an ellipse with major and minor axes of 170cm and 70cm, and is 60 to 130cm deep.

…Currently, it is broadly divided into an early period, which corresponds to the Yayoi culture of the Tohoku region, and a later period, which corresponds to the Kofun culture. The early culture is roughly divided into two groups: one with Esan-style pottery, which was mainly found in southern Hokkaido, and one with pottery from the northern to northern parts of central, eastern, and northern Hokkaido, each of which shows some regional characteristics. The former has a pottery composition common to the Yayoi culture of the Tohoku region, such as pedestal pottery, jar-shaped, pot-shaped, and bowl-shaped pottery, but also has abundant stone tools and bone and horn tools, and is considered to have been deeply involved in coastal fishing in addition to hunting. …
