Ponce

Japanese:
Ponce
A Filipino reform and revolutionary. Born into a wealthy family in Paliwag, Bulacan, central Luzon, he studied medicine at the Universidad Central de Madrid in Spain in 1887. The Philippine reform movement, known as the Propaganda Movement, which began in the early 1880s under Spanish rule in the Philippines, was also carried out in Spain among students and refugees, and Ponce joined it. In 1889, he was involved in the launch of Solidaridad (Mutual Aid), the organ of the movement in Spain, and supported the paper until its cessation in 1895 as the right-hand man of his fellow countryman Del Pilar, who became its editor-in-chief midway through the period. After losing Del Pilar in 1896, he moved to Hong Kong, where he supported the Philippine Revolution that had just broken out, forming the Revolutionary Promotion Society with refugees, and in June 1898, he was sent to Japan to procure weapons and ammunition at the request of the revolutionary government led by Aguinaldo. Through the introduction of Sun Yat-sen, who was in exile in Japan, he gained the cooperation of Miyazaki Toten and Inukai Tsuyoshi, and received arms from the Army General Staff, which he loaded onto the Nunobiki Maru and set sail from Nagasaki port, but it sank in a typhoon off the coast of Shanghai and never reached the hands of the revolutionary forces. After the defeat of the revolutionary forces and the beginning of American rule, he served as a member of the Philippine Congress from 1910 to 1912.
