Born on June 27, 1819. The sixth son of Aoyama Tadahiro, lord of the Tanba Sasayama Domain (Hyogo Prefecture). He was adopted by Aoyama Yukinori, and in 1831 became the sixth generation lord of the Aoyama family, lord of Hachiman Domain in Mino (Gifu Prefecture).
