… Founded in 1871 as Thyssen Limited Partnership in Mülheim in the Ruhr region, it became part of Vereingte Stahlwerke AG, a large steel company merger, in 1926. Vereingte Stahlwerke AG was dissolved in 1947 after World War II, but was re-established as August Thyssen-Hütte GmbH (ATH) in 1953. It consolidated many small factories that had been dismantled, and acquired German Special Steel, Phoenix Line Steel Pipe, and Handels Union (a trading company), expanding its product lineup and sales routes.
