...The state capital is Goiânia. Most of the state is made up of numerous chapadas (table lands) at an altitude of about 1000m. Except for the lowland tropical rainforests created by the two major tributaries of the Amazon River, the Tocantins and Araguaia, the region is covered with semi-arid sparse forests called the Cerrado. The average annual temperature is between 19 and 26°C, the average annual precipitation is around 1300mm, and there is a clear dry season from May to October, during which the sclerophyll of the Cerrado's twisted shrubs falls off.
