…The world's oldest and most authoritative weekly economic magazine, published in London. It was founded on September 2, 1843, by James Wilson, a banker and member of the House of Representatives who belonged to the Banking School, with himself as editor-in-chief, for the purpose of providing useful articles to practical people in all fields of commerce, industry, and agriculture while maintaining close relation to the facts. At the time of its publication, its main practical goal was the repeal of the Corn Laws, and many commentators, including R. Cobden, J. Bright, JS Mill, and T. Hodgskin, contributed to the magazine, which had a strong anti-government tone. …
