A former town in Minami Saitama County, eastern Saitama Prefecture. It is located on a plateau on the east bank of the Moto-Arakawa River, with the Minuma Irrigation Canal flowing southeast through the center. Rice, fruit trees, and horticultural crops are cultivated here. The town is one of the top producers of pears in the prefecture. The Tohoku Main Line runs through the town, and as factories move in, it is becoming a residential area. In October 2012, the town was incorporated as a city, becoming Shiraoka City.
