...This trend reached its peak in the 1890s with the emergence of Banjo Paterson (1864-1941) and Lawson. The opposing lineage blossomed twenty-odd years later in Christopher Brennan (1870-1932), who was based on Western Symbolism. The two lineages mixed during the interwar period, and sophistication progressed, but if we had to choose, K. Slather, J. Wright, and J. Macquarie would be the successors of the former lineage, while poets from A. Hope to L. Murray would be the successors of the latter lineage.
